Creating a transcript

First, ensure you have a stable internet connection.

File types you can upload to Kaituhi include:

.mp3

.mp4

.mov

.m4a

.wav

.aiff

.aac

.ogg

.wma

If your file is an .mp4 or .mov video, Kaituhi will create a transcript from the audio component of the file.

To get started, click the Upload button in the top right menu:

From there, select your language, and team and folder to upload to: 

Drag and drop your file into the drop zone or click the Kōwhiritia Select files button and choose your files. 

When you do this your file will start uploading. If you choose Māori as the Primary language, Kaituhi will start automatically transcribing your file. 

From here you can preview your file and you can rename, move the file to another folder, or change your primary language while your file is uploading. If you're collaborating with others, you can choose who will be transcribing and reviewing the file.

Once your file is finished uploading you can click the "View Transcript" to view and start editing your transcript.

You can upload additional files while the first file is still uploading by clicking the "Kōwhiritia Select files" button at the bottom of the screen, or drag and drop additional files in to your browser window.

If uploading multiple files at once, all files will need to finish uploading before you can "View Transcript".

Uploading audio and transcript files as a pair

You can also upload transcript files to Kaituhi, and during the upload process you can select which audio file each transcript file should be paired with.

Transcript file types supported are:

.srt

.vtt

.eaf

You can upload a single pair of associated transcript files by dragging them both into the dropzone, and Kaituhi will automatically add the transcript text to the audio file.

Or you can drag multiple files to the dropzone and Kaituhi will use the filenames to pair specific transcript and audio files together.

To change or correct the default pairing you can drag a transcript file up or down to pair it with the correct audio file:

Once your files are finished uploading you can click "View Transcript" to go to your transcript and view or edit the transcript text uploaded from the transcript file.
